The Lightning Strike, Kent [2017]

THE SHOT : The Lightning Strike, Kent [2017]

THE STORY : We were about to turn in for the night when my good friend and weather fanatic Craig Whitaker tipped me off that the HUGE storm that was looking like it might skirt a few miles North of us, was in fact going to hit us head on. After a few minutes of panicky radar-watching and fumbling through the mental fog to come up with a suitable vantage point, we jumped in the car and drove 20 minutes down the road to Hythe beach.

By the time the storm hit, it was the size of Wales and delivering around 600 strikes per minute. All around the skies were lighting up. We had less than five minutes before the torrential rains began and Chele and I recoiled to the safety of the car, cameras in hand. We perched the tripods inside and got them as stable as possible and just shot and shot for a couple of hours. We got back home around 3am, partially soaked, but fully exhilarated.
